mb_strlen — Get string length

Description

mixed mb_strlen ( string $str [, string $encoding = mb_internal_encoding() ] )

Gets the length of a string.

Parameters

str

The string being checked for length.

encoding

The encoding parameter is the character encoding. If it is omitted, the internal character encoding value will be used.

Return Values

Returns the number of characters in string str having character encoding encoding. A multi-byte character is counted as 1.

Returns FALSE if the given encoding is invalid.

Warning

This function may return Boolean FALSE, but may also return a non-Boolean value which evaluates to FALSE. Please read the section on Booleans for more information. Use the === operator for testing the return value of this function.
